What Is Acne?

An acne breakout occurs when there is an excess oil secretion from the sebaceous glands (oil glands) present in our skin. This excess oil along with dead skin cells clog the hair follicles causing acne to occur. Usually prevalent during the teenage years, acne can occur during adult life too. Apart from the face, you might also have acne breakouts on your back, shoulders, chest, upper arms, and neck.

In most of the cases, acne occurs due to genetics. During the teenage years, hormonal imbalance is considered to be the main cause of acne. Some of the other causes of acne include infections, unhealthy diet, undue stress, incorrect medications, etc.

Other Things To Keep In Mind

Though these homemade face packs are quite effective and can do wonders for your acne-prone skin, you need to remember that it cannot bring the results on its own. You will have to follow certain do’s and don’ts as detailed below, to gain maximum benefit from the natural remedies.

  • Watch What You Eat: Eating junk, oily, and spicy food is not going to work in your favor. You will have to maintain a healthy diet which includes green leafy vegetables, whole grains, fruits, etc.
  • Clean Your Pillowcase And Sheets: It is advisable to change your pillowcases and bedsheets on a regular basis to avoid coming in contact with unnecessary dust and dirt. Sometimes the pillowcases and sheets may also become oily due to the excess oil from your skin and hair, which can further aggravate your acne problem.
  • Don’t Pick At Your Face: As soon as we notice acne on our face, there is an urge to pick at it. This is done under the assumption that this will remove the acne quickly. However, this will only worsen your condition, and in some cases, it can lead to severe acne scarring as well.

Final Word

Using these natural remedies once or twice a week is a good option, but according to the experienced dermatologists at Oliva Skin & Hair Clinics, a market leader in this industry, if you notice that your acne problem is still persisting and there is no relief using natural remedies, then it is best to opt for cosmetic treatments to gain a more permanent solution for the acne problem rather than home remedies for acne.
